Jinja City sits along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, near the source of the White Nile. The city sits at an average elevation of 1,204 metres (3,950ft) above sea level Busoga sub-region, in the Eastern Region of Uganda. The name “Jinja” was acquired from the “Flat Rocks” which locally commonly referred to as “stones”. “Lusoga” is the native language of the Soga people or Basoga of the Busoga region of Eastern Uganda.
Jinja is also famous for its source of the Nile situated on the River Nile. River Nile has two attributes “White Nile” and “The Blue Nile”, which refer to the river’s source, derived from Arabic names formerly applied only to the Sudanese stretches which meet at Khartoum.
